It is a well-known fact that for two long decades until 1983 Harley-Davidson faltered as a company and as a motorcycle producer under growing pressures from Japanese competition. As a result, until today bike buyers are willing to pay much more for a product which may not match its immediate competition's performance, but comes with the added value of adventure and freedom spirit.

This unique character owes a lot to the Harley Owners Group and other clubs the world over that keep the Harley myth alive and kicking. Launched in 1983, HOG was created to promote feelings of loyalty and fraternity among motorcycle owners and its success has been tremendous. To achieve its goals, it relies on a sting of benefits that go together with membership, including joint bike rides, exclusive Harley-Davidson events, scores of unique goods and, recently, a community newsletter. Apart from solidifying its members' commitment to the brand, such extras have opened an alternative stream of income for the company, substantially adding to its recent economic revival.

Other Harley associations, typically subgroups within HOG, propagate the adventurous lifestyle on their own. Dating back to the late 1940s, HD Riders Club of Great Britain has continued to organize national and international Harley rallies, races or demonstration rides. For some time, it was engaged in publishing its own magazine for bike enthusiasts, funnily named "Harleyquin". Indeed, the appeal of the brand is so widespread and universal that it has reached nearly every corner of the globe with its message. From Harley rentals Miami, Florida, provides to its tourists and residents hungry for a bit of road rebellion to the deserts of the Middle East where Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt recently hosted its first HOG rally, attracting motorcycle devotees from as unlikely destinations as Syria or Saudi Arabia, everyone seems to be united by the compelling Harley myth.
